Our Story
Hello there, I'm Nelson Jones, the founder of Extra Steps.
We are a dedicated NDIS provider striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with psychosocial disabilities and complex behaviours.
With a passion for nurturing growth and resilience, I've devoted myself to supporting not just children caught in the youth justice system but also adults, especially men, in navigating their journeys toward improved well-being and empowerment.
My professional voyage spans over a number of years working in child protection, where I immersed myself in foster care, residential care, and as a family intervention practitioner. It was during my time at the Cerebral Palsy League in 2009, combined with the invaluable encounters in child protection, that I realized many of the young people and adults I worked with faced challenges due to psychosocial disabilities. This revelation fueled my desire to venture back into the sector and ultimately led to the creation of Extra Steps.
My formal qualifications include a Diploma in AOD, Mental Health, and Family Intervention. I am also currently completing a social work degree.
We take pride in providing tailored support that acknowledges the needs and goals of each individual. Whether it’s children navigating the youth justice system or adults seeking a guiding light, our mission remains steadfast—to empower, support, and inspire every step of the way.
If you choose to work with us, I give you my personal guarantee that we do everything we can to ensure our participants feel connected to our team and supported.
